Sounds crazy right? At the end of July talking about snow? Well, life has a way of changing in an instant. What made you think you were going to see today? When you woke up this am, did you automatically know that you were going to have vision? Speech? The ability to walk?
The amazing thing about life is, we never know what the next moment holds. Our lives can be changed in an instant! It is in that place of oblivion and vulnerability, that we are humbled and reminded daily that we can do nothing without God; our sole dependence is upon Him. It is in Him we live and move and have our being… ( Acts 17:28) Because tomorrow is not promised, why do so many live their lives like robots; wake up, take the kids to the sitters, clock in, have lunch, clock out, go home and do it all over again the next day. They never really experience life and enjoy their family, and friends and seeing places they’ve never seen.
Life is meant to be enjoyed, appreciated, loved. God created each of us to be in relationship with the other, and so often, we busy ourselves and hide behind our jobs, our positions, our homes, our responsibilities, our things to do lists etc. and never really enjoy life. So what you took a sick day and you weren’t sick? Sometimes your kids just want to hang out with mom or dad? Sometimes, you may just need to veg out and do what you enjoy ( planting flowers, playing music, dancing as if no one is looking, painting, cooking, coloring in a coloring book) Wait what? And the list could go on. Whatever makes you happy.
Why not live your life as if tomorrow was a snow day?
As a former teacher, it was so exciting to watch the snow vigorously fall at night, knowing that school would be closed the next day. I would plan what I was going to watch, prepare my favorite breakfast and literally sit in front of the television waiting for my school’s name to scroll across the bottom of the screen. Such a welcoming four words… school will be closed. How fun was this day going to be! Piddling around the house, a few projects here and there; just enjoying the day of endless possibilities.
Life should be just like that! It is meant to be enjoyed. The same way we plan to do things on a snow day, and the excitement that envelopes us, because inevitably things are shut down anyway; roads are difficult to travel on, you become very creative; you read, you watch t.v., you play games with the kids, you bake, you talk on the phone to people you haven’t spoken to in months, you enjoy social media, etc. The creativity that comes with a snow day is amazing! We are creative beings. Made in the image of the Master Creator!
Do something different today, because tomorrow is not promised. Make more memories, not more bills. Respond to life differently. Act as if tomorrow could be a snow day. Plan to enjoy it, because life is too short, because when its all said and done, would you much rather your legacy be, he/she was such a hard worker, or he/she enjoyed life.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not but for to steal, kill and destroy, but I’ve come that you might have life and have it to the full (more abundantly)
