Tomorrow Could Be A Snow Day

Sounds crazy right? At the end of July talking about snow? Well, life has a way of changing in an instant.  What made you think you were going to see today? When you woke up this am, did you automatically know that you were going to have vision? Speech? The ability to walk? 114218164

The amazing thing about life is, we never know what the next moment holds. Our lives can be changed in an instant!  It is in that place of oblivion and vulnerability, that we are humbled and reminded daily that we can do nothing without God; our sole dependence is upon Him.  It is in Him we live and move and have our being…  ( Acts 17:28) Because tomorrow is not promised, why do so many live their lives like robots; wake up, take the kids to the sitters, clock in, have lunch, clock out, go home and do it all over again the next day. They never really experience life and enjoy their  family, and friends and seeing places they’ve never seen. time-clock-work-400x400

Life is meant to be enjoyed, appreciated, loved. God created each of us to be in relationship with the other, and so often, we busy ourselves and hide behind our jobs, our positions, our homes, our responsibilities, our things to do lists etc. and never really enjoy life.  So what you took a sick day and you weren’t sick? Sometimes your kids just want to hang out with mom or dad? Sometimes,  you may just need to veg out and do what you enjoy ( planting flowers, playing music, dancing as if no one is looking, painting, cooking, coloring in a coloring book) Wait what? And the list could go on. Whatever makes you happy.Check-it-off-your-list

Why not live your life as if tomorrow was a snow day?

As a former teacher, it was so exciting to watch the snow vigorously fall at night, knowing that school would be closed the next day. I would plan what I was going to watch, prepare my favorite breakfast and literally sit in front of the television waiting for my school’s name to scroll across the bottom of the screen.  Such a welcoming  four words… school will be closed. How fun was this day going to be! Piddling around the house, a few projects here and there; just enjoying the day of  endless possibilities. teachers-waiting-for-snow-day

Life should be just like that! It is meant to be enjoyed. The same way we plan to do things on a snow day, and the excitement that envelopes us, because inevitably things are shut down anyway; roads are difficult to travel on,  you become very creative; you read, you watch t.v.,  you play games with the kids, you bake,  you talk on the phone to people you haven’t spoken to in months, you enjoy social media, etc. The creativity that comes with  a snow day is amazing! We are creative beings. Made in the image of the Master Creator!

Do something different today, because tomorrow is not promised. Make more  memories, not more bills. Respond to life differently.  Act as if tomorrow could be a snow day. Plan to enjoy it, because life is too short, because when its all said and done, would you much rather your legacy be, he/she was such a hard worker, or he/she enjoyed life.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not but for to steal, kill and destroy, but I’ve come that you might have life and have it to the full (more abundantly)

The Power of a Hymn

Hymns. We all have fond  memories of a hymn. For some, it reminds us of our grandparents,  or great grands, church fans and country living . It may even bring to mind old wooden churches, with shiplap for walls, wooden pews and  cemeteries in the backyard. The family church where everybody knew your name.ztattnall-county-ga-abandoned-old-country-church-rural-southern-photo-copyright-brian-brown-vanishing-south-georgia

For others, the memory of a hymn may have been the old church lady with the hat that swayed back and forth, eyes closed, to the tempo of her favorite lyrics. Hymns, go way back. We all have fond memories of a hymn.4625974774_6a66d1fd81_z

Somehow hymns also come to mind during times of grief and despair; even during times of gratitude and great joy. Hymns are the songs of our souls that aid in the deepening of our relationship with a loving God. Hymns provide pictures for the holy scriptures.  As we go through life our soul connects with a song and that song is usually a hymn.  Once you have been exposed to a hymn, you will never just be able to read the words, you will always have to sing it. The power of a hymn is magnificent! The power of a hymn is transformative! The power of a hymn is transcending! May you come to an awareness of the power of a hymn in your life. Find your soul song, and sing it to the top of your lungs! May He be glorified!

How great thou art is a classic!

O Lord my God,
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all
The world Thy Hand hath made,
I see the stars,
I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow’r throughout
The universe displayed;

Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

When Did You Become So Busy?

When did you become so busy?

How’s 4:00? What about Wednesday after 2:00?

Are you really enjoying conversation over lunch? Coffee-Shop-Meeting

Or was that just a meeting with an underlying agenda? Hmmmm…

Why does random feel like it was planned?

Why do we sit across from people, who never look up?

Why do people talk about how busy they are?

Do you have to sit near an outlet?

Was it difficult to listen and not respond to the ding that you just heard?

Do you schedule everything?

I bet you have writers cramp… in your thumbs?

When was the last time you just threw caution to the wind?

Life doesn’t have a schedule.

It just is.

When did you become so busy?

God Is So Faithful

It’s very easy, as you go through this life to get started on a thing and then want to stop it. It’s easy because as human beings when things don’t go “as planned” or the way we desire, we want to discontinue it.

But when  God is all you got left, that’s  a good place to get things started all over again!God has shown us that he is faithful. The scripture says: Continue reading “God Is So Faithful”

When God Removes Your Excuses

I read a quote recently that said if it’s important to you you’ll find a way, if it’s not you’ll find an excuse.
Excuses in many cases are our ” politically correct “way of responding to things we don’t want to do or believe we can’t do.
Often times excuses can be used for so long that we begin to believe them ourselves. You know the kind of excuse that says I would save more money but I’ve got so many bills. Or, I would eat better but I work late so I grab whatever I can get on the way home.

John 5:1-9 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda,[a] having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.[b] Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

And that day was the Sabbath.

Jesus asked the man one critical question in order to get one critical answer…. and that question was do you want to get well?
He had become a product of his environment. So, he came up with an excuse that worked for him and that he began to believe!
I’ve got nobody to put me in the pool!pool_of_bethesda_6
Have you ever made an excuse for yourself for so long that even YOU believed it?
What do you do when God removes your excuse?  What do you do when He removes every possibility that you can come up with and  He says ok,  we’ve got that out of the way, now what?  What’s your excuse now?
You said you’d love to  give more in church or to organizations that help those in need  the moment you got your hands on a couple of extra dollars… And the moment you got some extra money you decided to treat yourself! Hair, nails, a great meal at your favorite restaurant, you took a quick trip to your favorite place… In other words, it never got done!
What God shows us in this text is excuses have to be received in order for them to be valid!
In other words, I have to get somebody to come in agreement with my situation , thereby making my situation or condition in this case an actual problem.
Look at the text!  Here comes the excuse! The man says I have no one to put me in the pool!
Jesus said get up, take up your mat and walk. Jesus didn’t come into agreement with his condition. In other words he didn’t entertain  that conversation. He didn’t say, how come nobody put you in the pool. He didn’t say, didn’t they know you couldn’t walk? He merely said, ” get up, take up your mat and walk”!
You see, it’s easy to jump on the bandwagon of excuses rather than being a participant in the solution.
The truth of the matter, here it is… wait for it… Somebody that was around the pool with him could have gotten him there to the pool! Even if you  are blind , you can walk! Even if you’re sick you can push somebody to pool…
What’s been happening at the pool ( our churches, jobs, families, places of influence) is that we are all coming in agreement with what we see,  rather than what could be! God has equipped us!
You are a child of the Most High God! You are the head and not the tail. You’re a lender and not a borrower. But as soon as somebody needs a problem solved you direct them to somebody else! Excuses!
I have no one to put me in the pool!
How much longer shall we blame others  for things that we are equipped to do.
Jesus is showing us in this text that we are equipped to make a difference in the lives of those who are sick, lame and afflicted.
This text is the manifestation of  the greater works that Jesus speaks of in John 14:12 where it says:
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
God has equipped us to speak to a thing and it be done in Jesus name!  Mark 11:24 says
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
No more excuses! Trust in God! Trust His Word! Get er’ done!
Monday is here!

Did You At Least Say Thank You?

Basic CMYK

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
Many of us have heard this phrase before whether in our childhood or we ourselves have said it to children when something was done for them that was unexpected or undeserved.
It’s something about saying thank you that causes us to recognize that someone had a choice; they didn’t have to do something in the way that they did or the time  that they did it. They didn’t have to bless you like they did! They didn’t have to call you when they did ! But whenever they did, someone always said ” did u at least say thank you “?
We are in a season where people have taken on a posture that God is supposed to do things on their behalf all the time!  It’s as if  God is their personal butler! People have become Kingdom brats!butler
In other words… He’s supposed to heal our bodies, He’s supposed to put food on our table and clothes on our back. He’s supposed to get us out of the trouble we’ve gotten ourselves into! After all, He’s our butler!  All of this, on our command!
But  this text says be thankful in all circumstances. If He doesn’t do anything else, He’s done enough! We should still thank Him for what we have and for what He’s done already!
Just because you say thank you on Sunday doesn’t mean that blessings are going to overtake you on Monday!
No matter what, God is going to always be faithful to His word!
Saying thank you acknowledges our dependence on Him.  Saying thank you, reminds us, that we can do nothing without Him. Saying thank you is humbling.
Did you at least say thank you today?

Who Are The Jones’?

Who are the Jones’ and why are so many people trying to keep up with them? Has anyone ever seen them? Been their neighbors? Was a cousin of? If there are so many people keeping up with them,  who do the Jones’ keep up with?

Although it sounds funny, its quite a problem for so many. There is this proverbial family, that no one knows and  has never seen, yet so many  people base their values, purchases and decisions solely upon this one “family”. mansion

The Jones’ don’t actually exist, but they somehow exist in the back of the minds of people that feel the need to keep up with them and their  luxuries ;their homes, their cars, their boats, etc. New Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification

Find out who you are. Why not stay within your means. Keep up with yourself. The most frustrated person is the one that is trying to create a “look”. The outside look. The one that says, see what we have? We may be unhappy, unhealthy, and falling apart, but at least we have this! Why not focus on good health,  a strong well being,  family and spiritual growth and development. None of which have to do with the Jones’.

When it comes down to what’s important, its giving to others; being a blessing to those that may not have.  Asking God to use your hands and your voice for the greater good.

Take inventory of what’s important.  God has blessed us to be a blessing. Its not always the poor children in other countries… sometimes we could be a blessing right in our own backyards. There are so many among us, within our own countries, within our own families without shelter and daily comforts; that rely on the kindness of others for just one day or one night. homeless-shelter

May God continue to remind us of what’s really important. May we continue to love others as the scripture says:

Beloved if God so loved us, we ought to love one another. 1 John 4:11

God has a greater plan for each of us, and the Jones’ have nothing to do with it!

Are you content in your life? Do you find yourself fully  immersed  in the busyness of your life?  Does hustle and bustle give you a sense of purpose?  When talking to people, do you find the conversation bending more to how much you have to do, rather than, how content you are? Do you feel guilty not doing anything?  Have you fallen prey to the  phrase,” just keep it movin'”?  After all, as long as you’re movin’ you don’t deal with your reality. Your reality could be a bad marriage, kids going bananas at school, you’ve got new health concerns,  home is in foreclosure, and the list could go on. With God, even those things that look bad, can be made better, but we’ve got to “still” ourselves in order for that to happen.

Be still and know that I am God.  Psalm 46:10

But have you ever just sat in your own space, and not felt guilty that you didn’t feel like doing anything ( laundry, checking emails, running errands, being the soccer mom or dad for the day? ) tv Continue reading “Contentment”
